Terms of service
The commercial terms that apply to engagements with Story Units L T Services Limited unless a signed contract says otherwise.
Last updated: 1 March 2025
1. Quotes and proposals
Written proposals are valid for 30 days and are fixed for the scope described in them. A change to that scope — additional shoot days, extra deliverables, new locations — is quoted as a written variation before it is carried out.
2. Booking and payment
A 40% deposit confirms the booking and the shoot dates; the balance is due within 14 days of final delivery. Retainers are invoiced monthly in advance. Late payment may attract interest at 4% above the Bank of England base rate under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998. All prices exclude VAT.
3. Cancellation and postponement
Cancellation more than 14 days before the first shoot day: the deposit covers pre-production already carried out and nothing further is due. Within 14 days: 60% of the project fee. Within 48 hours: 100%, because crew and kit are committed. One postponement is accommodated at no fee where we receive more than 14 days' notice.
4. Client responsibilities
You agree to provide site access, any permissions required for filming on your premises, a named decision-maker for approvals, and brand assets in usable formats. Delays in feedback move delivery dates by the same number of working days.
5. Revisions and approval
Each deliverable includes the number of revision rounds stated in the proposal. A round means one consolidated set of notes. Further rounds are charged at our standard day rate. A deliverable is deemed approved 10 working days after delivery if we receive no notes.
6. Ownership and licensing
On receipt of final payment you receive full, perpetual, worldwide usage rights to the delivered films and stills, together with source project files and organised media. We retain copyright in our underlying methods and templates, and retain the right to show the work in our portfolio unless you ask us in writing not to.
Licensed third-party elements — stock music, stock footage, fonts, performer usage — are covered by the licence stated in the proposal. Extending that licence later is chargeable at the supplier's rate.
7. Insurance and safety
We carry public liability and professional indemnity insurance, and hold current risk assessments for each production. Drone operations are conducted under CAA authorisation and are subject to weather and airspace permissions on the day.
8. Force majeure and weather
Neither party is liable for delay caused by events outside its reasonable control. Where weather prevents filming, we will reschedule at cost price for crew already committed and no additional margin.
9. Liability
Our total liability arising from an engagement is limited to the fees paid for it. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit or anticipated savings.
10. Confidentiality
Each party keeps the other's confidential information private and uses it only to perform the engagement. We will sign your NDA on request.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
